Search Engine - Overview
The search engine is an easy-to-use tool, which visitors can use to search your website for any keyword(s). You can use a predefined template, or redesign the appearance of the search engine and the result pages according to your needs.
Search Engine - Configuration
Installing the Search EngineIn order to install the Search Engine for your website, open your Domaintechnik Control Panel, click on the button Search Engine, and then on Install. The search engine will be installed within 10 minutes. After the installation you will find the Search Engine Manager here. Configuring the Search EngineYou do not have to change the standard settings, in order to be able to use your search engine. By default each directory starting from the root directory, except cgi-bin and stats, is searched. File extensions searched by default are .html, .htm and .shtml.
In order to exlude certain directories of your website from searching, add different file extensions or modify search items to be ignored, you have to click on the link Settings, in your search engine. Further information on this can be found in your Search Engine Manager under the link Application. Indexing the WebsiteBefore you can use the search engine, you have to indicate your website. The search engine analyzes the directories and files to be searched. In order to start this procedure click on Indicate and then on Start Indexer and wait until the indexing procedure is completely finished before leaving this page.
This indexing procedure has to be repeated whenever you modify the settings of the search engine or update your website, otherwise the search engine might not work right. Integrating the Search EngineWith the following URL you can make a link to the search engine: yourdomain.tld/cgi-sys/search.cgi (Replace "yourdomain.tld" with your actual domain name.)
In order to self-define the appearance of the search engine, you can use a form in your website, which sends the search items to the search engine.
The substantial syntax of such a form looks as follows:
<FORM action="http://yourdomain.tld/cgi-sys/search.cgi" METHOD="get" NAME="search"> <INPUT type="TEXT" name="terms" value=""> <INPUT type="submit" value="Search"> </FORM>
This form looks like this:

You certainly have the possibility of specifying further options in your form by integrating miscellaneous form elements.
A detailed tutorial on options and layout modifications of your search engine and result sites can be found in your Search Engine Manager, under the link Application.
