How can I generate a MySQL database

You can generate a MySQL database online within your Control Panel under the menu item "MySQL database". Depending on your hosting package you can generate multiple MySQL databases.

How do I administer a MySQL database

The easiest way to administer your MySQL database online is with the program phpMyAdmin. To enter this program, go into your online Control Panel and choose "MySQL database". To open phpMyAdmin, click the "[Administration]" button at the database which you want to administer.

With phpMyAdmin you are able to edit, list and export every database content. Furthermore, you can create or import new data records. You can find an extensive documentation of the phpMyAdmin functions online within phpMyAdmin.

If you want you can use an external program to administer your databases. All you have to do is enter the IP adress or the hostname of the server you wish to use.

What is my access data for the database

The username and database name can be found, as soon as you have generated a database, in your Control Panel under "MySQL database" -> "[Access data]".

The hostname is "localhost", if you want to reach the database externally, you have to specify the hostname or IP adress.

How can I make a backup of my database

To make a backup, go into phpMyAdmin and click on "[Export]" at the database which you want to backup. Now, you can choose the database backup options. If you want to make a full backup of your database, keep the default options. The options of the right column should only be changed by experienced users.

To create and download your backup, choose the option "[Send]" in the lower part of the site and click "[OK]". Now you have successfully generated a backup of your database.

Domaintechnik® automatically makes a backup of your database each day. This backup is stored for 7 days.

How can I import an existing database

In order to import an existing database, you first need a backup of a MySQL database. An instruction of how to make a database backup can be found under "How can I make a backup of my database".

As soon as you have a backup, you can go into phpMyAdmin, click on "[Import]" and choose which data you want to import.
