Mambo (CMS)

Mambo (formerly named Mambo Open Source or MOS) is a free software/open source content management system (CMS) for creating and managing websites through a simple web interface. Mambo is based on the serverside scripting language PHP and MySQL, which both are licensed open-source.
It is available free of charge

Mambo has gone through a long process of development since it first started from the open-source code from a proprietary software.
It is constantly being worked on and improved.

Many users have created modules and components for Mambo, which are generally presented to the Mambo community, free of charge. This way, Mambo offers a vast range of functionality, which covers pretty much all common applications.

Especially around the German speaking areas, Mambo has a large and active community. But for example the Linux User & Developer Award 2004 is just another proof for its global importance.
There are also many forums and communities which offer patches, support, and general help.

Requirements

Mambo requires the serverside scripting language PHP as well as a MySQL database. For a flawless use, a webserver with the PHP-setting 'Safe Mode Off' is recommended.

Accessibility

Mambo is currently at the developmental branch of 4.6.x and, like many other CMS systems, not yet optimized for accessibility. Governmental websites will be obligated to have their websites created so that they work in any browser. There have already been made extensions though, to target this problem.

Mambo User Groups (MUGs)

The so called MUGs are local groups of Mambo users and developers that gather together on a regular basis, in order to share information about Mambo, plan projects and of course, also to get to know each other and therefore maintain the social component of open source software. There are MUGs in Berlin, Hamburg and Nürnberg.
