| Compression techniques in which file sizes are reduced by sacrificing some of the data (image detail, or audio data). For example, JPEG files allow the user to choose the quality level of the image on a scale of 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest). Usually, some image data will be discarded, but the lower image detail may be justified by the savings in file size. |
