| Internet Message Access Protocol. Like POP, IMAP is a protocol that specifies how email is received. The difference between them lies in the way email is handled after downloading the mail. With IMAP, the user sees only the email header and can decide whether to download the entire mail at a later time or delete it from the server. An email message that has been deleted locally is still available on the web server. See also: POP, SMTP |
