| File Transfer Protocol. A protocol that enables file transfers between a local system and a remote system. Before a website can "go online", the site files must be uploaded to the webserver. FTP can be started from a command prompt, a browser or by using an FTP program. Users must login with a username and password before any files can be transferred. |
